2.6.1 Display settings

I am trying to upgrade my kernel to 2.6.1. I'm pretty sure I got it, but when I try to boot into it from lilo, it says the bios check is successfull then the screen goes blank. I'm pretty sure it is sill working because I can wait for a while then type in my name, password, and then halt and the computer shuts down, but I can't see anything. Could I have not installed the correct display drivers into my kernel. My card is a ATI Mobility M6. When I tell it to load my old 2.4.22 from the kernel, it works perfectly. Any ideas?

It sounds like a framebuffer issue. recompile with only basic VESA framebuffer support, see if this helps. If there's a specific framebuffer driver for your card, enable it.

Sorry, I can't help much more... display problems like this are the hardest because you can't see any of the error messages.
