I have read a lot about this problem but i have not found a solution yet...heeelp!

If you don't need it to try and load the agpgart module at boot check your /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file for a line that loads agpgart module ("/sbin/modprobe agpgart")...and comment it out with "#"

I had the same issue with my kernel rebuild. I've got two versions of 2.6.5 running on an old server I'm using for testing purposes. One results in a black screen, one doesn't. As best as I can tell it looks to be down to the framebuffer settings. Framebuffer works under 2.4.26 for me, but I can't seem to get it to work under 2.6.5.
