1 gig disk drive big enough ?
hey guys.
i have a second pc with only 1 gig drive. i wanted to use it just for very simple stuff. i just want a plain minimal install. (with a windows manager + XFree86) and install mplayer. just for use when som1 else is using the main (family) pc. will i be able to install slackware on this 1 gig disk ??? if not, i was thinking of going with knopix im a semi experianced user with redhat 9.. do is it hard getting knopix to run of a hard disk ??? and where could i get info on how to do it ? |
Yes, Slack will fit on your disk. Just install the packages in the a and x groups. Also choose a windowmanager from the xap group. Mplayer will probably also be in the xap group.

thanks.
how much free space would i have for mp3's ect ? |
Not sure, probably 1/2 gb.
|
wow...
linux + XFree86 + a windows manager will fit on only half a gig.. nice :) |
Probably less.

lol
so, if slackware would fit on half a gig (minimal install with x and a WM) i thought that maybe i would be able to get redhat 9 on it.. NOPE. i can only just fit on bare minimum ( de-selecting EVERYHTING at install time, except the essential X packages) ohh, and moving my install partiton down to 40 meg, and my swap down to 64 meg :( |
ohh, and there are 4 slackware iso's, do i need all of them ???
