[SOLVED] Catalyst 15.7 with Slackware current

I started to set about trying to install Catalyst with Slackware current and I knew I would need to patch the catalyst installer.

I roughly followed
https://bluehatrecord.wordpress.com/...-kernel-4-1-3/

this fixed my initial problems but then I got a different error

GPL-incompatible module fglrx.ko uses GPL-only symbol 'cpu-tlbstate'

I looked at kernel src and it seems it does have in init.c

EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL(cpu-tlbstate);

It seems someone has submitted a bug report for the kernel

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101281

I'm guessing this means I would need to alter init.c and recompile the kernel to get Catalyst working?

I have Catalyst 15.7 working on 4.1.6 without error. I downloaded a patchset from Arch Linux some time ago, and patched Catalyst with it. For your reference, I will upload the patchset (remove the .txt extension before untarring it):

Here is a little tutorial on how to apply it:
Run (as root):
Code:
./amd-driver-installer-15.20.1046-x86.x86_64.run --extract catalyst
cd catalyst
I would recommend that the patches subdirectory be at the same level as the catalyst subdirectory for the following to work:
Code:
for i in ../patches/*.patch; do patch -p1 < $i;done
./ati-installer.sh 15.20 --install
Then after the installer has completed, run the 'aticonfig' command to suit your needs.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Matt

Thanks very much

The patch fglrx_gpl_symbol.patch from that patchset was all I needed, which just changes the license to report it is GPL/Proprietary, so I'll remember this in the future, much easier than compiling a kernel, I suspected there was an easier way.

You're welcome. I didn't know if you needed all of the patches or not, hence my post. I'm glad it helped.
