[RELEASE] src2pkg-2.8 released

It's been a year since the last release of src2pkg. So, it seemed like it was time to have at least a maintenance release.

There haven't been many changes since last time -a couple of minor glitches were fixed. Also, a couple of extra 'switches' added to the 'API'. And a new section was added to the 'Usage' file in the documents which explains some advanced features. And, both libsentry and unionfs-fuse have been updated to the latest versions. Significantly, libsentry has been made compatible for all glibc versions for the foreseeable future. Up til now, libsentry would become uncompilable anytime the glibc version got ahead of the libsentry configuration routines, which used explicit glibc version numbering.

The package for Slackware is here:

The CHANGES file is here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/amigolinux...rc2pkg/CHANGES

And the full ChangeLog is here:

As always, if you find any bugs, have problems with src2pkg, or have suggestions, let me know right away. I can best be reached here <amigo AT ibiblio DOT org>

Many thanks for your ongoing work on this gnashley! One of my core "must haves" for any Slackware installation.

You are great, src2pkg is great, and you are among those who make Slackware great.

Downloaded and upgraded. Thanks for this excellent tool. It nearly made learning about SlackBuilds obsolete. ;)

If any of you are interested, you can find many *.src2pkg build scripts for a complete system here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/amigolinux...ss-4.0/SOURCE/

They are kinda dated by now. I'm not really great at updating my site -other than src2pkg releases...
Still, there are working examples there for everything -except a few exceptions. I build glibc and gcc using stand-alone scripts. Any build script for these does so much package-splitting and/or source-combining, that the use of src2pkg code would mostly just be in the way. I also use a GroupBuild method for building the hundreds of packages for X & Co. Each package is built by src2pkg, but the builds are driven by a GroupBuild script which manages the compile-order, etc. The gcc/glibc build scripts are interesting themselves -for glibc I make individual packages of all the locales, with one general i18n package which supplies all the framework needed to support any/all locales. That way, you can get support for a couple of locales with around 20MB of installed stuff -instead of >300MB for the whole glibc-locale files. Just recently I finally finished a similar build script for the kernel-firmware which splits the content into 114 packages. I also have tentative work for doing the same with kernel-modules.

I wish that this wonderful utility would be included in /extra, someday soon, along with sbopkg, and, maybe, slackyd. Thanks, gnashley!
