Hi All
I am new to Linux. I installed Red Hat Linux 9 on my Intel PC. Linux is running fine. I downloded Yahoo Messenger for Red Hat from Yahoo site( there is no messenger for RH9) so I downloaded most closed one.
But when I compiled (installed) the error messege :
failed dependencies
libcrypto.os.2 is needed
what shall I do in this situation. How to compile and where to get Yahoo and MSN messenger for Red Hat 9?
I would suggest you use gaim instead. On RH9 its called "Instant Messenger" and is under the "Internet" section of the KDE/Gnome menu, it will connect to both Yahoo and MSN amongst others.
I would suggest you get the latest version from http://gaim.sourceforge.net/ (you can get an rpm from there and just install with using "rpm -U <filename>").
Thanks everybody for guiding me..... Still I would not connect to yahoo or MSN with Gaim Messenger!!! I think there is some configuration broblem.... anyway I am trying to configure it !!!!
First, you need to load the appropriate plugins.
To load the yahoo plugin, follow these steps.
1. Open the Gaim.
2. Click the "plugins" button.
3. Choose "libyahoo" on the left menu and click "Load" button.
4. Close the plugin dialog.
Then you need to create the account.
From the Gaim window,
1. Click the "Account" button.
2. Add "screamname" (yahoo user name) and "password".
3. At the "protocol", choose the "yahoo".
4. Click "OK".
5. Close the account editor.
Then you can start logon and use it.
Follow the same procedure for creating MSN, ICQ, etc.. accounts by choosing the approprite plugins. (The plugin names are quite obvious.)

What about MSN Chat?? Anyone know how to access the chatrooms using Linux?? I like RH9 so much better than Windows XP Professional (which I just purchased :-( )

Use Gaim instead which comes with Redhat 9.
Yahoo Messenger does in fact work with redhat 9. I've been running yahoo messenger ever since rh9 came out. But to the question at hand:
AskMe,
This libcrypto.so.2 file is located in the openssl 0.9.7a - 2 package. You can download this package from the redhat website. After you install this package you will get past that dependency.

cj,
Check the options in gaim. I know there is a plugin for yahoo messenger. You have to set it in options before you can use yahoo messenger. Look under the plugins section.

Sure we use MSN chat. Kmerlin is cute but doesn't have file sharing (at least the latest stable version that works on rh9). kmess works fine and has file sharing. I use kmess.
Thanks for the help... this is a great forum and very helpful people here... everything I get solved very quickly and easily by the help of great people who advice on this forum... great job everybody... Keep it up and keep alive!!!!
I always advice my friends to look for solution here!!! On this forum!!!
just to add, for anyone who wants instructions on how to install amsn (supports file transfers while gaim does not for msn), plus uses a famiiar interface for people used to the windass version, see the software page of the link below. The instructions are for the source file so it should work on virtually any linux.
