PySoulSeek = 'good' p2p

Hello all,

If you have been searching for a good p2p client to run under linux and have been dismayed with the results (as I have) I may have found the cure.

PySoulSeek is a client written in python which uses the soulseek protocol. It is available here:

I have been using it for a few days now and it is great...it supports advanced filtering options, and lets you know (using text color) which user's files are available to download immediately and which you will have to wait for. It also allows you to browse user files, and all that other stuff you would expect. You can choose from a bunch of different chatrooms and even talk to fellow linuxers while downloading tunes. Also, the results returned from searches are usually enormous (ie: a search for a well-known band can return 1000's of files, while you can also usually find all those ultra-rare indie bands that no one has ever heard of except you!!!)

In my opinion it is way better than any emule, gnutella, kazaa, or direct connect client that I have used.

If p2p is important for you, you should definately check it out.

looks promising. I will be checking it out.. Thanks for the link, we all need more links to cool software. There is so much open source software and it's only real advertising is word of mouth..

Wow, yes it does look VERY nice. I'm looking into giFT at the moment, but wouldn't mind simultaneously checking this one out to compare the 2.

Just to update this thread...

It would seem that pysoulseek's developer has given up on it. This guy Hyriand though...who created a bunch of patches for pysoulseek has taken it upon himself to salvage all the code and he has created a new client called 'nicotine'. It still uses the soulseek network, and it is virtually identical functionally and cosmetically to pysoulseek.
