I just installed Linux Mandrake 9.1 and I can not get my cable modem to work with it. Maybe it's cause the drivers weren't installed, I don't know. I've got a Motorola Surfboard and it's connected with Optimum Online and I have it going through a usb cable to connect. I haven't gotten around to Ethernet because it's not seeming to work. My IP address is 24.191.164.83 if that helps you with knowing how to help me. Thanks in advance!
Ekim just switch to ethernet at least till you get it up and running.
Use the auto detect feature for DHCP Mandrake will do the rest. Usb can be a real pain to get going fool with that after you get a working connection.
The ethernet won't work, I've got the D-Link adapter but it always says that a network adapter is unplugged. The blinking green light on the card is fine and so is the one on the cable modem.
If it says your adapter is unplugged and it is connected and installed correctly you probably just need a cross over cable. It has a set of pins reversed.

Are you on comcast/ at&t? If so re-boot several times to give auto detect a chance to pickup the connection. It took mine about 4 re-boots to detect properly.
Well since my other topic got closed, here is the new problem:

I'm having a bit of trouble setting up my internet on Mandrake 9.1. I know I can probably do it myself but I need a complete newb explanation on how to do it. I'm under Gnome, if that helps. I'm using an Ethernet cable modem with a D-Link DFE-530TX+ card.
I got the Ethernet to work and I got rid of the USB but I just dunno how to set it up.
Well, at first I couldn't figure out how to copy + paste the code I got so I figured I'd give it another try. I got it working and I'm using Linux Mandrake 9.1 on the internet right now. Thanks for the help everybody, though...I don't know if I really got much but oh well.
