Site pimpage advice

For those of you who don't know, I'm an amateur fantasy writer, using the 'net to share my works with the world.

My question is, how do I draw people to my site? How can I let people know about it without appearing to spam?

Find a way to make it an appealing story for Slashdot and submit, then submerge the server in liquid nitrogen to resist the /. effect.

A less dangerous way would be to find a good forum for writers and post some of your work there. I have no idea where you would find such forum, but google might be a good start.

There are several things you could do:
Make sure every email and/or forum post has your website in the sig line,
post your website in a yahoo group,
suggest your site to yahoo and google,
http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/
http://www.google.com/addurl.html
and email all of your friends and relatives to let them know about it (and tell them to forward it to everyone they know that might be interested in it.
Or you could just take out an ad during the superbowl.

you could go to an online forum and cleverly disguise your spam by pretending you're looking for advice on publicizing your site!

Put naked women on your page. It seems to draw visiters like mad.

I agree with Acid. You should put it in your signature in every forum you frequent with something like "naked women, click here" written as the link. :-)

If I put any XXX references like those on my site, it'll get ripped down in no time.

Besides, I don't know enough about PostNuke to do something like that.

for some attention I would add your stories to my site. I have an original stories section. The others stories are humorous, but I'm sure they could coexist. Personally fantasy isn't my favorite genre, but I know that many of my friends who visit my site love fantasy novels.
The only question is if you want your works on my site, so if you're interested check out my site which is hopefully in my sig

OK, so after two months, I'm still in the same position.

I've greatly improved the overall appearance of the site, submitted links to the major search engines, and added links to every sig I use. And still no luck.

I tried joining a few Webrings, but my web host doesn't allow any javascript. >

Right now, I'm totally stuck. Ideas, anyone?
