Know much about DD?

hey hows it going.

one of my hard disks is faulty, doesn't format, doesnt do anything, but it does pass the smart test and i think it has something to do with the spread tables, tables, whatever they are lol..

i'm wondering does anyone know what i'd have to type in a shell to get DD to fix my hard drive, or at least do something to it to make it formatable.

really appreciate the help, thanks.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

I suspect that your problem is a hardware problem and therefore dd probably cannot help. I suggest that you try the failing hard disks in another computer and see what happens.

"one of my hard disks"

Since you have several hard disks it is possible that your power supply is overloaded or the power cables are not load balanced. You could try unplugging all of your hard disks except the failing disk and see if it will work under those conditions.

the hard disk that is faulty resides in a computer down stairs while the hard drive that works exists in the computer i'm using now. it is not likely your diagnostic is correct.

i was told by a guy that i trust how to fix it with DD and i just forget all the arguments i have to pass with it..

pls anyone who might know, and i'm sorry for posting in different sections its just that i am quite anxious for an answer and was uncertain of which forum would be most appropriate for a speedy response.

thanks for your help anyways.
