Im using mandrake linux 10.1 and im trying to install Nvidia drivers, it comes in a .run file but i have no idea how to install this.. i really wanna learn linux and use it as much as possible but i have no idea how to even install programs
frst open a konsole.
2- find the file
e.g: if in ~/Download, do #cd ~/Download
3- do # ls -o
look a the permission ( make sure it iis executable)
e.g -rw-r--r-- 1 *** 378 2005-10-05 00:37 ****(is notexec)
-rwxr--r-- 1 *** 378 2005-10-05 00:37 ***** ( is)
if its not, do # chmod 755 "filename"
then switch to root (su)
then :
# ./"filename"
note.
# just mean commandline do not type #
"filename" means change for the appropriate filename without the ""
most file u do not execute as root but nvidia u need to
also shutdown X other wise it wont work
New problem, i got x shutdown and what not but now it says something about a kernal... i tried doing the online download but it dident work... any ideas?
You need to install the kernel-sources in order to build nvidia drivers. The kernel sources, as far as I know, is not shipped with Mandrake. You need to go to Mandrake homepage and grab the kernel-source.rpm and install it first. I wrote this a while ago and despite my poor English, should help a little bit:
