Am I going to have to screw around with ubuntu trying to install a driver but then having to try to install the source but having to reconfigure the network card and install the driver but because I don't have 'configured kernel source/headers' it won't install?
Is there a linux distro that comes with all the drivers/etc preloaded so I don't have to F around with it? (I'm using an x86_64 system with a 6800GT.)
No distro is going to have ALL the drivers preloaded.
Why not ask for help on how to install the drivers and give details instead of complaining. Or better yet do a search of the forum and/or check out the tutorials and stickies 10 to 1 the answer has already been posted.
You could start by opening Synaptic and installing the kernel header/source for your kernel. Not really that hard to do.
Hey! I love the biting sarcasm, why don't you ask me how much I've done trying to get the drivers to work and look in the threads I've been active in?
Regardless, does ubuntu have the same bull going with it that debian has, or is it fairly easy to install drivers without major complications that no one has mentioned in any of their walkthroughs?
Now, is it so hard to answer a yes or no question?
That really depends on how well the question is asked, doesn't it? What exactly are you having a problem with? Kernel headers? Sources for apt? Sound drivers? Network card drivers?
Ubuntu, MEPIS, Knoppix, Kanotix, Xandros, etc, are Debian based. they work almost exactly the same as Debian. they use the same package management system; apt and SYnaptic.
So if you can't seem to get things to work in one you probably won't be able to get it to work in another Debian based distro.

I take offense to that, if you are threatening to ban me please do so-and remove all posts that this account has made and all mention of this account from your website.
If you can't help, don't hinder. Don't make jokes about procedures that could trash the user's setup — the poor sap might interpret these as instructions.

Ask probing questions to elicit more details. If you're good at this, the querent will learn something — and so might you. Try to turn the bad question into a good one; remember we were all newbies once.

While just muttering RTFM is sometimes justified when replying to someone who is just a lazy slob, a pointer to documentation (even if it's just a suggestion to Google for a key phrase) is better.
Please make sure, next time you post that link to someone, that they can't make you eat it, mmkay?
I've used synaptic, while I *AM* a mule at times I'm far from an idiot, and I tend not to waste people's time with forum posts if I can help it.
