Resizing Partitions

I am running Windows ME, and trying to get Linux (but keep Windows). When I run fdisk, I get a "No Space" or something like that error. When I try to resize my boot partition using PowerQuest PartitionMagic (C:, i also have a RESTORE partition (both came with the computer)), I get a warning saying: "Resizing a partition with an OS on it may cause some system files to be displaced. If you resize a partition and an error occurs when you try to restart it, run [some file]." Would a Startup Disk fix that problem? Are the chances of the problem occuring so small that it really isn't worth it to worry about it?

Do youself a favor and defrag first. The chances are small, but there's still that chance. I've done it about a dozen times and so far so good. Did it this morning as a matter of fact on my laptop ntfs. Also meant to mention I use qtparted off the Knoppix disk, never used partition magic, heard it works good also.

I second the qtparted recommendation. I have used it from the PCLinuxOS CD, but Knoppix is nice to have.
