I can't install LIRC

I followed the instrunctions in the LIRC doc. I want to install LIRC for a TV tuner remote, I have bttv, TV works fine, radio just as fine. LIRC installation went smooth but when I want to test it:

mode2: error opening /dev/lirc
mode2: No such device

Any ideas... please help.
Thanks

Yeah I've played with getting LIRC running a few times. try 'ls -lah /dev |grep lirc' and see if it is in there.

I think the /var/log/lircd log file is generate only if lircd (the lirc deamon) is been started at least one time.

Anyway I'm struggling with the very same problem.
I haven't seen this post before so I started a new one but the topics are very similar...
You can have a look at mine there are some information that could be useful:

Thank you... I will hope will find a solution soon 'cause it's annoying. I like using my remote ... That's why I was extatic when I found uICE for Windws (yes I know,... I'm sorry I still use Windows, but it's all theese little things like this that don't work or take a while to make them work in Linux).
Anyway still haven't solved the problem with LIRC, any help would be appreciated.

I got lirc to work recently. I built a homebrew device and followed the instructions to set up lirc from this page:
http://lnx.manoweb.com/lirc/?partTyp...&partName=lirc

I think that these four commands are prob the most noteworthy:
setserial /dev/ttySx uart none
depmod -a
modprobe lirc_serial
lircd

I haven't set it up to load/setup automatically on boot yet, but after setting it up I can use my remote to control amarok, etc :-)

Hope that link helps someone.
