download and play mp3 using xmms

iam a first year student of an IT professional college in India.
We login as user.
I want 2 play mp3 songs using xmms.
But the in the Audio I/O Plugins,Input Plugins.There is no MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Player 1.2.8
So how can i play the mp3 songs when i am not the root.


Please help me out Iam very interested in larning a lot about many things in linux

I am guessing you're on a redhat/fedora linux box?? , which doesn't come with mp3 support by default.. but you can install the latest xmms, and get it working..

And please include what distro you are running, that way it make's it easy for people to help you out..

If you don't know your distribution, open an x terminal and try these commands:

cat /etc/issue
cat /etc/issue.net
