installing problem


i downloaded the three cd's iso and put them on cd's
during installationg when it asked me to insert the second cd
it did not work and did not accept the cd
so i skiped
and then it asked me to put cd three in
and i did
and it worked

what is the problem, and what is going to happen? and can i re download the cd 2 and install its content on the computer?

looks like a corrupt cd2 -- did you check the MD5 hash? (commonly listed with large downloads)

what distro.

its 10.1 community
i am currently downlodaing another version of cd2 iso from the mandrake site

i dont know how to check the md5 , i am very new to linux

after i finished installing from cd 1 and cd3 because i skiped cd2
i put the boot loader in the root parition it was one of the options

when i reboot i got a dos looking screen with something like this

GRUB>

its command line
and i dont know what to do from there
i am using my other computer to log on the internet and talk to you guys

grub is a boot-loader.

i think most distros let you type in "Linux" by default to load the system, though i've never run mandrake.

...being unable to readily reference your download page, i cannot help you with MD5

from the saudia arabia mirror i thought no body would be using it so thats why

this is the md5 checksum i got
a64fbcb98d6aa2cd4ac287e563593678 Mandrakelinux10.0-Official-Download-CD2.i586.iso

but i dont know what to do with it

typing linux in
GRUB>

did not do anything it was like bad command or something like that

You will need to re-install with a MD5 verified download, then again verify your ISO burns to make sure that they are being properly written to CD.

While you may have downloaded the file properly often burning software can be problematic, as can the CD/DVD writers themselves.
