LQ Usertitles

Based on feedback we are slightly restructuring the LQ usertitles a bit. Here is the new layout:

# 0 - 29 posts: Newbie
# 30 - 999 posts: Member
# 1000 posts: Senior Member
# After 5000 posts you can choose between Guru and LQ Addict

We have two options now and I'd like your opinion. Should we reset all members who are now between 1000 and 4999 to Senior Members, or should they be grandfathered in as Guru/LQ Addicts?

FYI I'm not using it atm coz I'm celebrating getting 2.6.8.1 working.

Edit: Looking at the top 100 of the memberlist, there arent even many of us above 2000, and it depends what you want Guru to mean. Atm I think all above 4000 are Mods anyway. So maybe 2000+ is Addict/Guru, with current ones carried over.

I vote to keep all existing users with their current titles as they wish or give them choice of Sr. Member or LQ Addict and all new members who reach these plateau's to be affected. Then at 5k they have the choice of Guru, etc....

Nice - I agree. All existing to be offered the choice and so on. Hopefully that'll mean that anyone who cares about titles is catered for.

As it stands now, if you selected a usertitle it should remain intact. If you never touched it, it's now Senior Member. Moving forward, the rules will apply as in my first post. So far, this seems to be acceptable to everyone. If you would prefer something else, feel free to post here or contact me. Thanks.

JMHO, but I'd prefer no user titles at all.

I have seen too many boards with endless posts of "LOL" or "LMAO" just to increase post-counts and I find it rather meaningless; I mean Torvalds himself would have to make 30 posts to get past "Newbie" status on a Linux discussion board

I like the "Registered xxxx" line though because it gives a sense of continuity or history to a site.

chefmark, at this point I don't think it would be fair to just wholesale remove usertitles. Luckily we don't have too many users posting just for titles though

I still think that 5000 limit is a bit high, it's pointless atm and for a long while yet.

That's exactly how we thought about 1k posts.. at one time we never thought anyone would reach that on a personal level.. now look..

But check out my top 100 link, that nearly lists all over 1000 posts, and that's the top 1/1316th of the members. Only 27 members top the 2000 posts marker. Just how exclusive do you want the highest title to be?

Were just adjusting to growth, that's how I look at it. :P

And regarding the 27 that have more than 2k posts, that's alot. For anyone who doesn't know, we now have 113 members with more than 1k posts each, with many closing in on that number as well. I think that is one of the main reasons for making this change, it is not going to get too common for those reaching 1k posts if consistent in a very quick time frame.
