nforce audio

1st post!

im having trouble with my audio. its acting like it is muted. but when i go to check for that, it says it isnt. i have a gigabyte ga-7nnxp (nforce2) motherboard.

im having a hard time trying to find information suited to my understanding on google... which is very limited. my understanding that is, not google.

i need help!

which sound channels have you checked for not being muted? In Suse 9.0 both the master and pcm volume needed to be turned up. Also it seems to only accept one input source at a time, so something may be hogging the sound card.

What distro are you running Jason? You should definitely add that piece of info to your profile so it's easier for us to help (use the 'user cp' button in the upper right). I have an nforce2 mobo and the onboard sound works with the 'intel_i810' sound module.

Try the command 'lsmod' to see if you have the proper module (driver) loaded.

Obligatory reminders: also verify that your hardware is correctly connected, the speaker cables are plugged in, the speakers are on, the volume is up, etc.

What Linux distro/version are you running?

I also just got set up with a new PC with an nForce motherboard, and I really struggled with it - several things didn't work.... until I installed the most up-to-date version of Linux I could find.

I started with SuSE 8.2, and got nowhere. But SuSE 9.0 worked like a dream.

I think there's been quite a bit of work done on the sound drivers in recent versions, so you should definitely make sure you're running the most recent version you can find.
