Question Cannot load java plugins for mozilla correctly

I am having a problem trying to run the Java vm plugins with Mozilla. I am working with Redhat AS 3.0, and I have installed the j2re-1_4_2_03-linux-i586-rpm.bin. I also added the link in my .mozilla/plugins/ dir for libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_03/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so
If I check under the Help tab and select about plugins, all of the Java plugins say they are loaded, but if I go to a site that needs the java-vm, I still cannot see the applets. The site looks as if the plugin is not installed.

Your java and your mozilla have to be compiled with thesame generation of gcc. If one is gcc 2.xx and the other is 3.xx, then it won't work. That's likely your problem. Was you rMozilla compiled with gcc 2.95? Or 3.2?

Not Sure...
How would you find out how the 2 were compiled? I did an rpm -qa | grep gcc and also mozilla and here is the output.
gcc-3.2.3-20
gcc-java-3.2.3-20
gcc-g77-ssa-3.5ssa-0.20030801.41
libgcc-ssa-3.5ssa-0.20030801.41
gcc-c++-3.2.3-20
gcc-gnat-3.2.3-20
gcc-objc-3.2.3-20
gcc-c++-ssa-3.5ssa-0.20030801.41
gcc-java-ssa-3.5ssa-0.20030801.41
libgcc-3.2.3-20
gcc-g77-3.2.3-20
gcc-ssa-3.5ssa-0.20030801.41
gcc-objc-ssa-3.5ssa-0.20030801.41
mozilla-nspr-1.4-3.0.18
mozilla-js-debugger-1.4-3.0.18
mozilla-nss-1.4-3.0.18
mozilla-chat-1.4-3.0.18
mozilla-psm-1.4-3.0.18
mozilla-1.4-3.0.18

It looks like the java is using the gcc 3.2.3.20, but how do I find out how mozilla was compiled?

according to the notes at the Mozilla site for 1.4, its compiled with gcc 3.2. Is there a /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_03/plugin/i386/ns7/ directory? If so, try linking that one instead. It works for me with Moz 1.6 and java 1.5 beta (you might want to upgrade Mozilla. Its faster and more stable)

Thanks alot!!!
You put me on the right track with the plugins directory. I ran mozilla directly from a command line to a page that would bring up Java instantly, and I got this error.

LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/plugins/libflashplayer.so [libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory]

I noticed there was another link for the plugin in the /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/ folder that was not working properly, so I changed the link from
libjavaplugin_oji.so -> usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/plugins/java2/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so
to
libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_03/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so
Now all of my java plugins work!!!
