The message means that you have hardware problems with /dev/hdh which may or may not be caused by a bad hard drive. You may have a bad secondary IDE controller or you may have a secondary IDE controller or hard disk which is not supported by Linux. Could you post your IDE configuration, i.e IDE controller chips, hard drive brands and models, CD-ROMs, and so forth and what Linux device address these devices are attached to?

Also can you switch your BIOS to boot either the primary IDE controller or the secondary IDE controller?

OKay I'm not a pro so I might not know all the exact info you asked.

But I have 2 80gb seagate drives on ATA Raid 0
And the ide cables are in slot 1 and 2 on my motherboard.
I have a liteon dvd and liteon CCDRW on the 3rd ide cable.
and on the fourth is to my other 80gb WD drive.

I have a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP, athlon 2200+ with only 256mb pc2700 ddr ram.

Suse attached all my raid drives to rd0/A, b, c , etc

The 80GB WD drive is the drive i'm trying to install linux on is the one called /dev/hdh/

I hope this is somewhat enough for u to figure out whats up.

I think that your problem is probably a hardware problem or hardware/Linux incompatibility with your secondary IDE controller. What brand is the card and who manufacturers the IDE chipset on that card? You might have to open up your computer to answer this question.

The only possible fix that I can see so far is to try moving your 80GB WD drive from /dev/hdh to /dev/hdg. On some secondary IDE controllers people have better luck with the hard drive set as master rather than slave.
