"during install, it will screw up and when I when i check, i see about a whole screen full of this error
(none) kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 22:47(hdh), sector xxxxx
does that meany my hard drive is screwed up or what?"
The message means that you have hardware problems with /dev/hdh which may or may not be caused by a bad hard drive. You may have a bad secondary IDE controller or you may have a secondary IDE controller or hard disk which is not supported by Linux. Could you post your IDE configuration, i.e IDE controller chips, hard drive brands and models, CD-ROMs, and so forth and what Linux device address these devices are attached to?
Also can you switch your BIOS to boot either the primary IDE controller or the secondary IDE controller?
