ATI Radeon; 2.6.1; and 3D on an HP 5385

I know this question's been asked before, but I really haven't found a good answer to it yet. I really want to get my ATI Radeon IGP 340M working on my laptop. Currently I'm running the Mandrake 10 Beta 1; With kernel 2.6.1, XFree 4.4 RC1, and KDE 3.2. I've gotten everything to work so far; including wireless, touchpad (stupid 2.6.1 synaptics compatibility issues... finally fixed that!) And all... but I want to finally chuck windows on this beast... but I can't do that unless I get 3d under linux on this thing. So, can anyone support the cause, and help me rid my laptop of windows? (By getting me 3d, I mean. I DO know how to use fdisk )

Thanks!

Lol, I know

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I''d have no qualms about dropping back to Mandrake 9.2 if I had too.... (I just like the 2.6.1 kernel, and KDE 3.2) However, I can tell you right now that my desktop, which has an Nvidia card DOES have 3d acceleration under the beta.. after the loading of the right drivers. I figured the laptop would be the same...

So... anyone know how to do it for Mandrake 9.2?

Thanks....

Also, as a side note, my roomate is running the 10 beta, and he ran it with the Radeon 8500 drivers (he has the ATI Radeon M7) .... I'm thinkiing about trying this, but due to a couple issues I'm re-installing Mandrake on it.....

[edit] I tried it under Mandrake 9.2, and it did not, I repeate did not work. installing the 10 beta.. and gunna give it a try again. [/edit]

Go here and you will find a good help.

The thread is a bit old, because you no longer need to patch the kernel (but you have to compile it with agpgart support enabled and ati Radeon compiled as a module), but the Xfree part is all right.

You can also go here to get still more help: it is focused on compaq and slackware, i know, but the section on getting 3D acceleration should fit your needs (well, it fitted mine...).

Good luck!!

I was forgetting: I have a IGP320M and works wonderfully... YUK!
