Alsa(aaarghhhh)

ALSA is driving me nut on Slackware 9.1
I have a SBlive 5.1 and I can't have it working, each time it fails and i have oss instead.
The worst part of it is that ONE time it worked:
I had made a ./configure make make install in /usr/src/alsa/alsa-0.9.8
then alsaconf
then it was OK
then I rebooted....
...and arghhh..:lots of isnmod errors and no more alsa
Now each time i try to launch "alsactl restore" by alsaconf or by manually launching rc.alsa it says "no soundcard found", and i have the same errors at booting.
OSS works but i don't like using only 2 of my 5 speakers.
Help...

http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...module=emu10k1

Follow these instructions all the way and your card will most certainly work!
Cheers!

Well in fact it doesn't

the modprobe snd-emu10k1 returns:

/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.o: insmod snd-emu10k1 failed

I don't know what to do about it, and i don't understand why it all worked one time ( yesterday in fact )

Out of curiosity, do you get the same problems with Alsa-0.9.6 ?
my 0.9.8 refused to work at all, i just went back to 0.9.6, and it works perfectly now...

I haven't tried 0.9.6. I'v tried 0.9.8 which is the one that worked once and now i've switched to 1.0-rc2 hoping that would fix the problem but it doesn't.
