slackware 9.0 sound/nic problem

hi all, i installed slack on an ibm netfinity 3000 server box a few days ago. here is a link to the box specs.

i configured x w/out a hitch. configured nic with netconfig at install. again all was well. the only thing left to configure was my system sound. so i googled around for a couple of days and thought i had the answer. let me give some history, before i installed slack i did a bit of research and it seemed having all the hardware specs on hand would be the way to save myself alot of frustration, so, i installed win2kpro first just to get a good look at all the specs. windows reported integrated crystal wdm audio. in my searches here and on google it seems that it is supported under the csxxxx.o (cirrus logic) line of drivers. so i have my solution. i tried each of the csxxx drivers by editing rc.modules, and, then editing modules.conf as suggested in numorous posts here. here's the thing throwing me. none of the configurations worked, however everytime i tried, i loose the nic. i've tried around 5 different csxxx drivers, a couple of times each, and, each time sound still does not work, and neither does netconfig. so i unedit(if that's even a word) rc.modules & modules.conf. reboot, wala the nic is back up and working fine. note: even after each try at loading the sound drivers and realizing the nic was down, i then tried to run netconfig with no success. sorry for the long post, but, i pride myself in searching and finding solutions and i'm just tired and stumped. any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated by 1 real linux nub.

sorry, the nic is also onboard completely supported w/ the eepro100 driver.

If the box happens to have a sound-card
it's certainly not a PCI one :) ... I just looked
at the website that you poseted, and can't
see any mention of sound features (which
isn't surprising in a server, really ;}) ...

However, we should give
pnpdump
a try to determine whether there's any ISA
PnP soundcards in the machine.

i ran pnpdump it is not allowing me to copy and paste the results, but the card does show up. CSCe825

i'm searching setup/configure isa devices, found pnpdump > dump.txt.
ran it, still no luck posting the output. am i on the right track?

I googled a bit and found a german list entry
that says:
CS4235B = CSCe825 = CSC0100 < CS4236

In other words, trying to load a module for these
should work, the post also mentioned ALSA,
which would be the next step if OSS (built-
in kernel support) doesn't do it.

thx for your help. please forgive my ignorance on the above post. i was so busy trying to post the output that i didn't stop to read it. i have now and am on my way(found a couple of isapnp how-to's). any thoughts on the nic problem(it's working fine right now)? thx again.

Wild guess in respect to the nic is that
the ISA drivers screwed up IRQ or DMA
for the nic while trying to load ... should
be fine after a reboot, and stay fine 'til
you try again ;)
