VGA Card Intallation

Hi Friends!

I'm having a computer with the following configuration

PIII 500/64 MB RAM/20 GB HDD/810 Chipset Mother Board/Integrated vga and Sound Controller/Multimedia Kit. I tried to install Linux 6.2 and 7.0.

In both the versions I can able to login only in the text mode. When I tried to install the vga card, it is not getting installed properly.

Moreover the card is autodetected by Linux when Xconfigurator is run. Monitor is also been autodetected (Samtron 55V; Hz-sync: 30-55 Khz: Vr-sync: 50-120hz.

The video ram is 2 mb. But I could not able to get into GUI mode properly. I tried for all colors and resolutions. But could not get the GUI Mode. Windows '98 is working fine using the same vga card. Infact I have also used xf86config.

Kindly solve my problem.

Try to desable OS PnP installed in your BIOS, it might cause the problem.

what errors do you get in your XFree log file when you try startx

sounds like your i810 agpgart.o module isnt loaded. Check for this line "/sbin/modprobe agpgart" in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules if not type at console "insmod agpgart" then try startx should work if agpgart is in the lib otherwise you can find it at intels support site.
