Has anybody around tried Crux Linux ?

Hi ppl

I am currently downloading a 64 bits port of Crux Linux...

The installer is cranked IMHO...

At a time i tinkered a bit with it... but did not get much far...

AFAIR it is some sort of uberArch distro... one has to compile the kernel after installing it...

So... any experiences ( good/bad/ ) from ppl around...?

No, never heard of it.
Also 64 bit is unstable, especially for a distro that was not originally written for it.

Also... strange...

Although similarity in its principles, between Arch and Crux, both are targeted to the same kind of user, both are lightweight streamlined distros, Arch is in 9 in Distrowatch ranking HPD, Crux doesn't even exist...

Unstable?? I'm running Arch x86_64 and so far it's doing just fine! Have you had problems with 64-bit in the past?

Yes but it does not matter as it has no advantages.

You mean to say that crux Linux has no decisive advantage over Arch Linux, or that Crux64 has no advantage over Crux_i686...?

Can't you crunch bigger numbers at a time with 64-bit? I mean, you can fit a lot more into a single register of a 64-bit CPU than you can with 32-bit...

But I do see your point of it being overkill for those with less than about 4 GiB of RAM (that's how much my laptop has).

I just tried it in VirtualBox, and the installer failed! Got a bunch of "transaction incomplete" errors or something...

And something else: 32-bit OSes really kinda suffer under 64-bit VirtualBox.

I have 6GB of ram so 64-bit is important. And it's typical for higher-end computers now to have a few GiB of RAM.

Anyway, I tried installing CRUX in a virtual machine but failed. Mostly because I don't understand how to compile the Linux kernel and install GRUB.
