program in linux to encrypt files

I'm looking for a program that will encrypt a folder or file-- & automatically decrypt it when I, trying to access it.
Thanks,
Al

You can use gpg to en/decrypt files. But I guess you are looking for a gui frontend. If you are using gnome, I think there is a program called seahorse that may do what you want.

You can probably get more definitive answers if you state what distro you are using and other relevant details of our setup.

openpgp has a gui frontend... sort of. You can right click a file and select encrypt/decrypt. But you will have to zip a folder to encrypt it.

what's a purpose of that encryption when you click on folder and it opens?)))
in gpg you need to enter your private key password everytime, i think that is pretty good protection)

Email was one of the main uses for it, but the algorithm is also widely used for encrypting files on disk. As far as I know many file managers have support for pgp/gpg built in.

I use it to encrypt files on my drive. I don't know about dolphin, but nautilus supports it without any problems

Dolphin also lists encryption possibilities on my Slackware / KDE laptop.

Kind regards,
