Cool Debian Questions


i just installed Debian 4.0 Ethch. and its missing a whole bunch if other files in order to ./configure. is there any way to down load all of these files from a ftp sourse and with a qouple of commands? i am a very new to Linux. if you could tell be each step that would be Great.

Yes there may well be depending on what it is you want to install:

Code:
apt-get build-dep <NAME>
where <NAME> is the application you are trying to compile. This will install all of the dependancies required for the compile. If it doesnt exist, try:

Code:
apt-cache search <NAME>
and see if the name of your application is included. If there is no application, then you might be on your own :-(.

Then run your ./configure!
