typo!

sorry, yeah i meant rc.wireles.conf. It's odd iv'e booted a few time this evening, i had my system set to boot straight to kde interface in modded the inittab file and gave it a value of 4. but then after 2 or 3 boots it kept hanging before kde started. I switched the inittab file value back to 3 and i can log in and start kde that way no problem. odd. Anyway i'm going to try the rc.wireless.conf file now. finger crossed!

Praise be to Volkerding!!!---and htexmexh

Finally i'm up and running again albeit on kernel version 2.4.33.3 but thats not a problem. I have now mastered the art of installing and PROPERLY configuring a linksys WMP54G v4.1 wireless card!

So for anyone who may stumble upon this in the future allow me to enpart some words of wisdom.

1: When installing the driver for this card do not follow the instructions in the Module folder. Simply tar -xvzf rt61-cvs-daily.tar.gz the file, then cd rt61-cvs-whatever_it_is. Now type make and then make install

DO NOT COPY FILES TO ANY FOLDER THE MANUAL RECOMMENDS

2: open the folder /etc/rc.d/ . once there open the file rc.wireless.conf and add these lines

Quote:

## --------- START SECTION TO REMOVE -----------
## Pick up any Access Point, should work on most 802.11 cards
*)
INFO="ra0"
ESSID="eircom2204 0050"
CHANNEL="y"
KEY="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
MODE=Managed

;;
## ---------- END SECTION TO REMOVE ------------
where y is the channel number of your acces point and xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx is your key and obviously your own essid for your own access point.

-------------------------

Now open the file rc.intet1.con in the same folder and add these lines:

Quote:

## Config information for ra0:
IFNAME[1]="ra0"
IPADDR[1]="x.x.x.x"
NETMASK[1]="255.255.255.0"
USE_DHCP[1]="yes"
where x = your ip address.

Thats it!

you can either restart or from a konsole type /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1

Either way it works and i'm back to my lightning fast old speeds

EDIT: This has only been tested on kernel version 2.4.33.3, i'm playing around with 2.6.17.13 at the moment and i'll append this post with any benficial results.

This guide was made possible thanks primarily to h_texmex_h, what can i say except i would love to see you and peter volkerding sitting down together for a chat, the two of you would be very well suited.

and of course i want to give thanks to Mr. Volkerding for his tireless effort in delivering yet another amazing distro......i praise you both!

Thanks guys!

Philips SAA7130/34

Well this whole topic started with me asking questions about a tv tuner card witht he philips SAA7130/34 chipset. It is my sad duty to inform anyone running slackware 11 under kernel 2.4.33.3 or kernel 2.6.17.13 that if you have a:

linksys WMP54G v4.1 wifi card

and a mercury tv tuner card your stuffed. Yes you can get the tv tuner card working, but at a cost and that is, if the tv card works your internet wont, or at best it will grind to a very very slow pace.

But for what it's worth if you dont have a linksys card as mentioned above then i have created a driver in .tgz format for the SAA71XX chipset that installs and works wonderfully! under both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels!

If anyone should want it or a detailed guide on how to get any tv tuner card running on the philips SAA71XX chipset up and running you can email me at alibar@eircom.net

Once again thanks go out to htexmexh, search for his post's if your ever stuck he's EXCELLENT!!

Goodbye.

Thanks, glad I could help.

Also, did you try the other 2 suggestions here:

?

Really, I don't know all that much, but I can usually figure a lot of things out.
