usb flash memory freezes konquerror

Env: mandrake 10.1 ,kernel 2.6.8.1-12mdk,kde 3.2.3
dual boot with windows 98

i installed succesfully an usb flash memory device on
windows 98 (downloadyng the correct driver for win 98)

i enabled succesfully the device also in the linux env. adding the folllowin line to fstab

/dev/sda1 /mnt/removable vfat umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,rw,noauto 0 0

then i execute the mount command and all runs fine


but if i try to add the user parameter to fstab permitting also the drive pen to be mounted by my userid,then the usb pen is succesfully mounted ,but konqueror freeze when i try to launch it....
i tryed also to launch konqueror form the console
to see if there are some useful messagges ,but none..konqueror command stay on the line and nothing happens.......

removing user (i tryed also with users) restore the situation......

any one experience the same problem ?
any help will be appreciated

My Sandisk pen drive is automatically mounted and a window appears showing the contents as soon as I plug it into Mandrake 10.1, (without editing fstab). My Jetflash (Linux compatible) pen drive does not show up in Mandrake 10.1. But, with a fresh Windows re-format on the Jetflash, it will show up in Mandrake 10.2, still not in Mandrake 10.1, but any thing above that like the distros in my list, the Sandisk always pops up, and the Jetflash only with a very recent format job.

i performed some check and also my mandrake 10.1
is able to recognize the usb device......
after the pen is plugged into usb connector
an entry is added by the system to fstab and mtab
im able to read and write from/to the pen...but
a pen device icon is not create on the desktop
and the original problem is still present......
konqueror freezes.....
i performed this additional check......
i launch koqueror as root and it works...
it seems related to the current user no more
able to launch konqueror......
is there any way to reset or bypass this condition ?
are there some mandrake 10.1 users in the same condition ?

after investigating.......
as soon the usb pen is automatically mounted kded
loops...
so the problem about konqueror freeze is caused by
kded looping...infact after killing and restarting the process i'm able to open konqueror also with
the current user......
searching internet is seems the same problem as

it was resolved doing a mandrake update.....

i never performed this......
so 'im asking you some questions:
i saw mskupdate command......but i'm connected to internet with a slow 56kb modem....

so how to launch mdkupdate ?
how last it ? (i have to stay connected many hours ?)
is possible to select a single or a group of updates ?
so now after identified the problem......
the newer question is
i need as much info about mandrake update as possible

Well, first you have to set up your repositories at this site: http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ . In step 1 there are three drop down lists, the first one has "2007" in it, you need to change it to probably "10.1 official", the second one is for the architecture, leave the third one at "urpmi".
When you go tho step 2 there will be 5 check boxes with drop down menus, take the check marks out and leave the first one, from the drop down list, select a mirror download site in a country/city nearest you for the best results. Although I have found the best for me has been Romania which is half way around the world from me. Proceed to step 3, now there should be a long command like this:

urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.iasi.roedu.net/mirrors/ftp.../media/contrib with media_info/hdlist.cz

Copy & paste the command in a terminal as root and hit enter, it will download the repo data for the contrib section in the example I put above which can take a while because between all 5 of them there is probably around 65MB. I'm on dial up also and it's a pain, but has to be done. When the prompt returns go back and select the next section in step 2 to get the command for it, continue till all 5 are done.

Then go to main menu/system/configuration/packaging/Mandrakelinux_Update, put in root password, it will want to check the mirrors to see if you have the latest lists and then present a big list of updates. If there is a check mark next to all of them, remove as many as you want, or put in the check mark next to the ones you want to start with, at the bottom should be a total size in megabytes in respect to how many packages you select at a time.

thanks for the help...i fixed the problem
then i have also another question to issue...

first the problem ...
i bypassed it because the big cost of download afraid me.......
so i edit
/usr/share/services/kded/mountwatcher.desktop
X-KDE-Kded-autoload=true
X-KDE-Kded-load-on-demand=false
then i set with kde control the mountwatcher
service as not loadable on startup
then i uncheck the show device icon on thesktop
on the kde lookandfeel behaviour folder
then i manually create icon on the desktop
pointing to cd-rom ,floppy and usb pen
now i can mount usb pen without loops...

the question is about mandrake and mandriva updates...

is possible to rescue the list of rpm packages involved into the update....

i need thes because...due to high cost of 56kb connection,knowing the error then is better to download only the package that fix my error..

Well, you in luck, because I'm on dial-up and some times need to re-build, I make sure to keep my updates, then I put them in my data drive so they don't get lost when I re-build. When I do re-build, I set up the folder in the data drive as a repository and fully update without downloading.

Mandrake & Mandriva:

To be able to keep all .rpms downloaded and installed through Mandriva's GUI rpmdrake (including updates), use these commands from a terminal to find all occurances of the words "noclean" & "post_clean_cache" in rpmdrake config. file in /usr/sbin/rpmdrake.

grep -n noclean /usr/sbin/rpmdrake
grep -n post_clean_cache /usr/sbin/rpmdrake

The -n option gives the line # where the word occurs in the file.
Using an editor, edit the file as such:
Change the value of noclean from (1) to (0)
Change the value of post_clean_cache from (1) to (0)
Save the file and exit the editor.

The cached files will be stored in /var/cache/urpmi/rpms

To keep all files downloaded with urpmi via command line, use the "--noclean" option in the command.

Mandriva 2007 will still clean the cache the next time you go to use the GUI (Add, remove, update packages), to keep them in any event, issue this command:

grep -n clean /usr/bin/drakrpm

You should get something similar to this:

[root@localhost jo]# grep -n clean /usr/bin/drakrpm
1452:               update_sources($urpm, noclean => 0, banner => $::isEmbedded);
1783:   clean_all => 1,
1914:       post_clean_cache => 0,

Change the value of "noclean => 0," to "noclean => 1," in file /usr/bin/drakrpm
Change the value of "clean_all => 1," to "clean_all => 0," in file /usr/bin/drakrpm
The "post_clean_cache" should stay at (0), when it is changed to (0) in one file, it is changed in the other also.

IMPORTANT:
If you ever apply an update for "rpmdrake", go back and re-set these values as they may revert to default.
Try to do this update first, set the values, re-boot for changes to take effect (sometimes needed), before applying the rest of the updates or installing packages.

Also, make sure to apply the update for "rpmdrake" first by itself and then check to see if the settings are still there because when updating rpmdrake in Mandriva 2007, the settings have to be re-done to keep cached files. I know in my Mandrake 2005 LE I don't have to redo them but it is better to be safe than sorry. It is also best to re-boot after making the changes as I know this has to be done with Mandriva 2007 for the changes to take effect.
