Unhappy Installing Firefox 2.0.0.1 on Suse Linux 10

Hello All,

Sorry, I'm an YaNN (Yet another New Newbie); and like all the others, thoroughly confused!

I am trying to install the latest Firefox (2.0.0.1) onto my Suse Linux 10 Enterprise desktop machine. Installed through VMWare.

I have been folowing kb.mozillazine.org/Installing_Firefox#Linux

and get lost when I get an error of :-

mv: cannot overwrite directory `/usr/local/firefox'

as far as I'm aware I'm in the 'Admin' mode. I have typed 'su' and entered my password.

What am I doing wrong? I realise there is a thread for Installing Firefox on Linux, but it seems to be for v1.5 and looking at the info(which I have also tried) I'm still entering frustrationville on my ways towards goingtohitmycomputer town!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OK, I've just upgraded on SuSE linux 10. Here's how:

NB I downloaded to /home/chris/Downloads/

Code:
su
PASSWORD
cd /opt
rm -r MozillaFirefox
tar -xzf /home/chris/Downloads/firefox-2.0.0.1.tar.gz
chown root:root firefox
cd /usr/bin
ls fire*
you should find a symbolic link 'firefox'
Code:
rm firefox
ln -sv /opt/firefox/firefox
and just to verify that you were successful open a new terminal (no need to be root) &
Code:
firefox -v
should see:
Code:
Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.1, Copyright (c) 1998 - 2006 mozilla.org
Hope it works.

Initially tried to extract the files to a directory without relevant permissions (didn't extract all the files). Tried again to my home folder....guess what...it worked.

Followed the trest of the advice and manged to create the link ok and hey presto!! My computer lives to see another day!!

Thanks again
