hp dv9000


ive got suse 10, and il like to dual boot with windows... untill i get uber confident with linux.. anyhow ive got 59gigs free, so i am thinking about getting a new 120gig hd and cutting it half so 60 for windows and 60 for linux...

anyhow hows suse working on the newer hps? is the touch pad still functional and stuff? what about verizons wireless broadband card, does linux suport expresscard?

I think that suse will work fine on that computer. Suse usually has pretty good hardware support.

i am trying to burn the live cd, but i dont have a program to burn iso's well i do, but its at home and i am on vacation... doh...

ok i got the live cd burnt, it started up perfect, the touch pad is SUPER sensitive... wow... anyhow i couldnt figure out how to enable wifi, and i noticed it didnt install a sound card... possible problems...

any help... i am courious to see how it does with my verizon wireless broadband card...

For the wireless card try YAST.

For the touchpad look on freshmeat.net for synaptics (if you're using a synaptics touchpad)

DV9000 with the Turion has a bad BIOS

You can check this with the firmware test by running the first disk of the SuSe install. HP is grabbing it's ankles for M$. The BIOS is the reason the sound and other things are broken... look and see for yourself. HP told me they had NO intentions of fixing it either!!!

Update:

I have now posted a complaint on the BBB for HP. HP is now stating that all it's standard laptops will ONLY run M$. Further that if anyone loads another OS on them that the warranty is VOID!!! I am asking all the great linux users out there to boycott HP!!!! Not only did HP not help, but they were VERY confrontational and RUDE to me.

DON'T BUY HP!!!!!

I had sound issues on my HP dv6105US. The latest alsa fixes it
