I tried to use dvd-slideshow today to show some pics along with an audio track. What I found is what a mess - you have to specify each picture's preferences in a text file? You have to do this for EACH pic? Wow - that would take me all freaking day.
My question: is there a better way? All I want to do is put some pics to music and play it on a TV in a regular DVD player.

A quick search on www.kde-apps.org comes up with a couple of apps manslide and mandvd (this one has Mandriva downloads) you may want to check them out.
The beauty of OS software is that you not only (usually) get it for free but you also get to re-write it if you want to. I doubt that dvd-slideshow was written with you in mind so feel free to spend a few months completely re-writing it. If you wouldn't mind posting the link to your work in this thread when you're done so we can all use your creation for free then that would be just peachy.

Enough bile,
Wow, go get a cup of coffee and chill for awhile. This is certainly an unpleasant way to greet somebody asking a sincere question. This smells badly of "I've finally arrived and now you want MY help?"
This is the attitude that will keep a lot of people from asking questions

Thanks for the heads-up HappyTux. I didn't know about those applications, but MANDVD turned out to be just exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate your help!

If was labelled as bile and it came before a couple of solid suggestions to sort him out - something that was lacking in your post I noticed.
There is no problem in LQ in getting people to ask questions, the problem is in convincing them of the merits of 30 seconds with google first.
Now, if it's alright with the trolls, I'm going back to spitting bile.

FYI - I did Google this. I Googled it and I read that link you posted long before I posted my query. How do you think I found out how big of a pain in the ass dvd-slideshow was? The reason I posted here is because, unlike some (many) here, I dont know a damn thing about writing or programming anything, and I figured someone who knows probably already wrote an app like that. I was looking for an app just like the one HappyTux pointed me too, an app that did not show up when I Googled it. Please consider that some people make an honest effort to find information before you accuse them of not Googling. And, I just checked, those apps HappyTux suggested do NOT show up on a Google search for "dvd slideshow linux", at least not in the first 3 pages, and that took me more than 30 seconds to look through, which, as you pointed out, is apparently the cutoff between lazy and un-lazy.

Thank you again HappyTux!
Your welcome they don't even show up in Google Linux either I had seen them on kde-apps, perhaps otchie1 should have followed his own advice and took 30 seconds before spouting off.

Well I've read it and re-read it but I still can't see where you mention that you've looked for alternative resources and already found some.
I can see where you bitch about someone else's work that is too much trouble for you to use but not much else.
I hold to the opinion that if you want nice answers, ask nice questions. You could always try moaning that a given piece of free software isn't good enough for you but you might attract a bit of bile mixed in with the responses.
Oh, wait, you tried that last method....didn't you like it? Perhaps there is a bigger lesson there than one about how to use Google.
'linux dvd slideshow' -> 'kde dvd slideshow'
What? I have to amend my search string if I don't get any decent answers? What kind of free nonsense is that?.
It is certainly nice, but NOT required, when folks put their search terms or Google links in their posts. It not shows that they have attempted to help themselves, but also can steer helpers away from dead ends.
I think all of you need to calm down a bit so that this thread can be salvaged. I would really like to keep this thread open, so please stop the personal attacks and "bile".

Happy TUX solved the OP's trouble in post 2; it's just the trolls keeping this thing running so if that was a threat to close a thread if we don't behave then stop threatening and just close it.

I think its best for me to close this thread before it goes down hill again.
