Question syntax in a header file.

I m looking at the file which defines registers for the AU1500 and their addresses.

I dont understand the following notation:

#define SYS_CNTRL_E1S (1<<23)

what does the << mean?

i m working on the encore M3 board with the 32bit MIPS AU1500 processor on it.

Thanks,
A

Hi ashlesha,
<< is the left shift operator of C. 1<<23 means the 23rd bit of the 32 bit integer value is set.
hope helps .
