3.8 Gb Suse 10.1 slow install in 1h30 min. Mandriva 2006 was less than 40 min

Suse 10.1 looks slow to install, much slower than mandriva 2006
for about the same Gb of packages same HW (thinkpad R40e celeron 2 GHz)

Is this me? or does suse 10.1 does something "wrong" (conservative dma / hdparm)?
(This means that user should/can twaek kernel boot parameters for install)

The cause for slow installion is too many to mention.
Even in the same distro, different installion method can cause differesnt in installion time.
I will tell you some examples:
My box took 3 hours to install 10G FC5.
But when I choose the text installion instead of GUI, the time reduce to 2 hours.
For distro to distro comparison: FC5 took 3 hours to installion 10G but gentoo took me 5 hours to install 3G.
And the most funny things in install gentoo is if you check wrong options, the installion time can raise from 5 hours to 5 weeks or so.

In conclusion, I think comparison about installion time between distro make no sense
