How to associate files with icons

Hi,
My system is Ubuntu 6.06,use Gnome.
I hava a problem that I don't know how to associate files with icons.
I've installed Mathematica and have download it's icon files, but the *.nb files still have no icon. Can anyone tell me how I should do to associate *nb files to those files,thanks.

I haven't tried something like this, but my guess would be, right click on such a file (in Nautilus), then click on the enlarged non-icon displayed on the first tab to select a different icon. This should then be associated with all files with the same extension.

I've been looking for the same solution. I tried changing the icon in properties as you suggested. It only changed for that file. Perhaps after a restart of X it will work.

More likely I was just plain wrong. Shucks. Perhaps then the only way is to register it as a new MIME-type, and I am definitely NOT qualified to give advice on that.
