is my i250 printer going crazy ?

I installed Mandriva Linux 2005 on my computer, and I got my modem detected without a flaw (Sagem Fast 800) (else I wouldn't be able to send this post), and my printer (Canon i250) thanks to some drivers found on the official site in New Zealand, and a little help because of dependancies error related to libpng.so.2 during the installation. So, I am a happy camper - at the moment.

I tried to print under Opera web browser : no problem, except the fact that I had never been prompted for cancelling printing while the printer had no more paper, and that's probably the reason why I have problems now.

Indeed, now I cannot print, and sometimes, I get random and numerous printings started while restarting my system or turning my printer on.

The printings which are launched are exactly the ones I didn't get before...

Is there a way to cancel all of these expected printings, so that I can use my printer again ?

And last, what can I do when I don't need to print further and as my printer is temporarily running out of paper ?

Try the following from a command line:

lprm -

That command will remove all pending print jobs and should bring your printer back to ready.

my printer seems to have calmed down. When I type :

# lpstat -p i250

I get :

printer i250 is idle. enabled since Jan 01 00:00

One small step for the newbie, one giant step for Linux !

I solved all the problems with my printer. The last was with OpenOffice, which printed systematically in A5 format. Moreover I was unable to modify the options in the Mandrake Configuration Tool for my printer.

To solve the problem, I had to look after a very useful functionality in the MDK Config Tool : a log window which describes the commands while modifying the options. So I copied/pasted the command, and tested it, and guess what, it was buggy... Finally I adapted a working command (found for a useless printer called "Canon i250 version -something-" - my printer is simply called "i250" in the system), and now OOo documents are in A4 by default.

My conclusion : Boo-hoo-hoo ! Linux is not still adequate for pure office users !

But even though it is a bit stereotypical,
