modprobe: FATAL: vboxdrv is not found...
#Sid #CustomKernel
Everytime virtualbox..specifically, virtualbox-dkms, or broadband-sta-dkms is updated..my poor hardware and i have to:
1) Boot from an older kernel and flush the latest running kernel -- 10 mins.
2) recompile a kernel -- 80 mins., gcc 5, cpu core temps. 90-95 C and hdd temp. as high as 50 C the whole time.
3) Install the newly compiled image and headers and reboot, all the time praying that something wouldn't go wrong during the whole process.
Is there a less arduous, nerve wracking and non-passive (i mean, not upgrading the said packages) way in which i can get around this?
Just wondering why you recompile your kernel. Modules can be built against running kernel, old modules can be removed and new modules inserted on the fly, even no reboot is needed.

Thanks, that was very illuminating but of no help, i can carry out none of the troubleshooting methods as i do not have a distribution kernel that i can install the headers of from the repository as described (# apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r|sed 's,[^-]*-[^-]*-,,' virtualbox). Moreover, the upgrade deletes the old dkms so i cannot do that "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup" thingee, there's no such thing in /etc/init.d.
I had hoped that my tags of #Sid and #CustomKernel would have precluded such solutions, anyhoo, i appreciate that you tried.
