PostgreSQL compatibility in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Hi All,

Good Day!

I'm a new member of this site.
This is my question. Is there any PostgreSQL compatibility in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS? I installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and I want to use PostgreSQL 8.2, but unfortunately I can't install.
Thank you in advance....

What do you mean by can't install? Any error messages when you try?

Besides the fact 8.2 being old, is likely not in Ubuntu's latest repos... is there any reason you need that specific version and can't use newer?

Code:
apt-cache search --names-only postgres
Code:
apt-cache policy postgres
The latter for example, on my debian 8 system, shows:

Code:
$ apt-cache policy postgresql
postgresql:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 9.5+175
  Version table:
     9.5+175 500
        500 http://cdn.debian.net/debian sid/main amd64 Packages

Error was like this:
Couldn't find any package by glob 'postgresql-8.2'
Couldn't find any package by regex 'postgresql-8.2'

Currently I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS using PostgreSQL 8.2 and my system was up and running. But when I migrate it to Ubuntu 16.04 using PostgreSQL 9.5, there was an error with the source code, the concern is that the double quote(") cannot recognized in higher version of PostgreSQL.

Like I said, it's old, so it's not going to be in the latest Ubuntu repos.

You can:
- Compile from source.
- Scour the older repos for the packages needed and install them manually using dpkg, but you're likely to run into dependency problems.
** do NOT (how else can I emphasize this? https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDeb..._FrankenDebian) add the older repos to your sources.list or you're likely to end up with a broken system altogether.
- I don't know what your use-case is, but perhaps running the older Ubuntu in a chrooted environment is possible, although again, this does have the possibility of breaking the 'host' system (been there, done that).
- Again, not knowing your use-case, perhaps running the older Ubuntu in something like VirtualBox a possibility.

What do you mean by error in source code?
Is your concern of double quotes used in SQL statements or in tables?
How did you migrate your data?
