RHEL 6.6. Hyper-V VM - kdump doesn't work

Hi,

I am investigating a panic on a 6.6 Hyper-V VM and I can't for the life of me get kdump to record a crash. I've scoured the 'net and found this is a known issue with Hyper-V. This MS KB describes how to work around the problem.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2858695

I updated my kdump.conf and rebooted, but still not getting a dump. I've been testing with echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger.

Anyone have this issue found a way to get kdump to work??

did you set it up ?
it is turned off by default
in the grub.conf boot line
Code:
crashkernel=128M
and WHY!!!! are you looking on Microsoft's web site for a redhat issue ????

you paid for the required support contract for redhat
that must have license gets you access to the redhat docs

log into the redhat site with your credentials ( the ones you set up with the required support contract)
and search the redhat knowledge base

Thanks for the response. At the time I posted this, I did not have access to a support contract. Now I do and we're following up with Red Hat. Of course the grub.conf file is setup right as are all the other config files related to kdump. The reason I was on the MS site is that it was the only place I could find with info on kdump not working under Hyper-V. There's even a RH KB that points to the MS link!

Hi,

Can you post the following output from the system

# cat /proc/cmdline
# grep -v \# /etc/kdump.conf | grep -v ^$
# uname -r
# service kdump restart
