Question Cannot login after NVIDIA making xorg.conf

Hi everyone,

After generating /etc/X11/xorg.conf through NVIDIA X Server Settings, I cannot login to X. I chose version 340.93 through Software & Updates - Additonal Drivers, but I see the version 331.20 in the xorg.conf. Please help.

You have KMS enabled in kernel, it grabs your card before nvidia does. You need to disable KMS.

NVIDIA driver created /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf to blacklist the current drivers. I added a string "nomodeset" to the linux line in /boot/grub/grub.cfg, then run: $ sudo update-initramfs -u. I still cannot login.

Try with minimal xorg.conf
Code:
Section "Device"
   Identifier "nvidia"
   Driver "nvidia"
EndSection
