keyboard not working in the text editor

i've got a Debian8 with IceWM as display manager. i use 'xfe' writer as the default txt editor. suddenly the keyboard in the text editor is not working anymore, pressing any charactor on the keyboard doesn't enter them. however, the keyboard continues to function in web browsers (palemoon and Opera).

how wierd, i have no clue what to do

@xiongnu - Are you able to copy and paste text into the writer? If you can then that will indicate that you are successfully in "insert" mode. If not, then the issue would not appear to be your keyboard, but something with the writer application itself.

yes, i can copy and paste text into writer. i just can't input anything into 'x file write'. keyboard works in web browser without any issue.

however, i can't type anything in 'x file explorer' file manager location field either.

thank you for the input! I never thought it's a bug, thought it might be some settings that i could tweak to get it work.

I checked the version of 'xfwrite' on my Debian8, it shows 1.37 as well.
