Fedora Codecs in Banshee and Rhythmbox

Hi all,

Since openSUSE is probably dissolving into Arch- and Debian/CentOS-like forks, I'm trying to get acquainted with Fedora.

After looking at rpmfusion's guides, Fedora's wiki (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Multimedia), and the guides to the other website it offered, I tried running these commands:

Code:
 13 rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release.rpm
   16 yum install libdvdcss libdvdread libdvdnav lsdvd libdvbpsi gstreamer gstreamer-ffmpeg gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-bad-free gstreamer-plugins-bad-free-extras gstreamer-plugins-bad-nonfree gstreamer-plugins-base gstreamer-plugins-good gstreamer-plugins-ugly k3b-extras-freeworld xine-lib xine-lib-extras xine-lib-extras-freeworld
   17 dnf install vlc
   18 dnf install vlc mplayer
   21 dnf install banshee
Then when I open Banshee or Rhythmbox, it detects my music but won't play it, saying the improper codecs aren't installed, although when I open it in vlc it plays fine. mplayer is also not to be found in either the command line or GNOME menu system. How come the codecs aren't clicking with the GNOME utilities?

Thanks!

the old MjmWired guide ( used to be the best BUT the author stopped using Fedora with 19 )
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...l#mediaplayers

might not work well

however on the TOP of every Fedoraforum page in BOLD yellow is the "Fedora Set-Up Guides"
http://www.fedoraforum.org/?view=fedora_setup

have a go with "Dangermouse's" Auto ten ( the name stuck after the fedora10 "auto" script)

or "PostInstallerF"

I used AutoTeb to install the option for MP3 and audio codecs, and the same issue still occurred. When I ran the commands "postinstaller" and "postinstallerf" I was just returned to the prompt I typed it into, both in a normal user shell and in a root prompt. The guide says things were updated to work with 22.

Ever since Fedora 20, I've been using Chapeau. All your struggling to install codecs etc, are already done for you in that distribution. The latest Chapeaulinux as of Fedora 22 release date is Chapeau 22.

Chapeau is in distrowatch, and at chapeaulinux.org.

Is there a way to install Fedora's KDE along with it? It appears to be a strictly GNOME operating system

just install the kde desktop
and switch from using GDM to KDM ( or not if you WANT the gnome3 login screen)

as soon as you type in your user name a menu option will be available to log into what ever Desktop Manager you want

on suse i have
KDE
xfce
Enlightenment ( WARNING!!! dose NOT play well with KDE dark themes !!! )

not sure if "grouplist" is in dnf
the command to find the correct name for the kde DM was
Code:
su -
yum grouplist
then to use "groupinstall" to install it

I did eventually find a solution. My Fedora installation blew up between the 2nd and the 11th and I just got around to reinstalling it. I found this article http://linoxide.com/linux-how-to/thi...ing-fedora-22/ which seemed to have the right commands to get things working. I think it had to be updated for dnf. Thanks everyone for your ideas, Bruce Springsteen is now blasting out of Rhythmbox

I took the painless way, I installed Chapeau Linux (www.chapeaulinux.org).

Comes will all that you would install using linoxide, and includes Steam, and driver support for Nvidia

I know of that, just I like being able to install KDE and LXDE as well. That guide made this pretty painless - thank though.
