Downgrading xserver-xorg-video-mga Jessie -> Wheezy

I lost hardware rendering with my Matrox G400 (AGP) video card when I upgraded to Jessie.

The old version of the MGA driver was 1.5.0-3. This works with hardware rendering.

The new version is 1.6.3-2. I can only get VESA with this.

Obviously hardware rendering was lost somewhere between 1.5.0 and 1.6.3.

How would I go about downgrading this package?

I tried this:

1. Downloaded the 1.5.0-3 i386 package.
2. apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-mga
3. dpkg -i <the 1.5.0-3 package>.deb

But it says it's the wrong ABI version when I try to start x. Indeed, dpkg -i complained about unmet dependencies, and 1.5.0-3 depends on xorg-video-abi-12 while 1.6.3-2 depends on xorg-video-abi-18.

I tried doing the same thing on Slackware a while ago but with the same result.

Am I screwed?

Thanks in advance.

[EDIT]
Oh, I nearly forgot the Xorg.0.logs!

1.5.0-3 log (Jessie)
1.6.3-2 log (Jessie)

Did you install firmware-linux-nonfree?

No, I don't want to install binary blobs. I'll rather use VESA.

But I see that firmware-linux-nonfree has a Matrox G400 blob, so I'll mark the thread as solved.

It's not possible to downgrade the package?
