Running on Ubuntu 14.04, I have installed Caffeine which seems to disable Xscreensaver while I am watching video steaming on fullscreen, but the screen still goes blank after the alotted 10 minutes when Xscreensaver would normally activate.
As I understand it, Caffeine should enable me to watch videos on fullscreen without interference, but this does not happen.
I do not have Caffeine installed, but some media players have a "prevent screensaver" setting somewhere in the preferences. You might try a different video player for testing purposes. Totem also seems to play video without interruption.
On my Mageia machine, I find that when VLC plays a video, xscreensaver does not interfere, but when the Dragon Player (I think that's the one--I'm miles away from my Mageia box) is playing, it is routinely interrupted by the screensaver.
Thanks frankbell. Going a bit off topic, the xscreensaver display modes page confuses me in that the button that says "Blank after...minutes" should actually, to my mind, read "Activate after...minutes."
I have commented about this in the past but nobody seems to agree/mind/react.
Perhaps you should suggest this to the creator of Xscreensaver, though, after all this time of successful usage of the program, I think most folks are used to how it behaves. Frankly, I've had the same question, but I just accepted the program and how it worked.
I think by "blank," what is meant is "blank screen," which is followed implicity by "start screensaver." This program has been around a long time; display memory is much cheaper now than it was when it was first created.
