why is fedora fasing out rc.local

anyone know why fedora is fading out /etc/rc.local ?

I was trying to set up my xbmc machine and took multiple reboots and duckduckgo searches to realize I had to manually create the file then run:
Code:
 sudo service rc.local start
to enable it. also why is service being replaced by systemctl ?

No idea but as you found it's quite easy to enable.

No, not service but /sbin/init, see https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Systemd#Why_systemd.3F
*Note I'm not interested in seeing the start of another systemd-vs-init thread so anyone of the systemd-over-my-dead-body crowd: this is not the thread you're looking for.

thanks, I found another difference.

I think iptables is being replaced by firewalld (I disabled it since I couldn't figure out how to allow dlna).

It is. If you don't have a need for another firewall management tool, "zones" or XML-based configuration files right here's how to get the old behaviour: 'systemctl stop firewalld.service; systemctl disable firewalld.service; yum install iptables-services; systemctl enable iptables.service; systemctl start iptables.service;'. (Obviously you need a proper /etc/sysconfig/iptables rule set.)
