Is Local GUI interface possible to a remote NON-GUI server?

Hello,

I have been searching and can't find a clear answer to what I want to accomplish.

I am using SSH to connect to my ubuntu server located at a remote datacenter. The server is a VM and not running a GUI interface.

What I want is to make a connection over SSH to the server and have it feed data to a GUI on my Windows PC so that I don't have to sit here all day and type command lines.

Is this possible? Can someone provide a direction for me to research or info on how it can be done if you've done it before?

thanks!

Certainly, but you have to have the GUI applications installed on that server. When you set up the ssh connection, use the "-X" (X11 forwarding) option and it will set a value for $DISPLAY in the remote environment that the GUI application client will use to communicate with the X server on your local machine. I do it all the time, but the GUI application and any libraries it requires must be installed on that remote (possibly headless) machine.
