[Disclosure?] mount virus

Dear All,

While I'm not a security expert, it struck me that in spite of all the talk about the security of linux systems compared to Windows, many are running dual boot systems.

It is fortunate that Windows cannot natively mount ext3 or reiser file systems (although I know there is a third party tool to mount at least ext3 under windows). If it could, we would no doubt have already seen viruses exploit this vulnerability: infect windows, mount any linux volumes, and infect crucial binaries.

So this post is just to draw attention to the fact that any virus that can mount linux volumes can circumvent linux security, and that this is relatively easy in linux-windows dual boot setups.

Suggested fix: remove windows.

If you do not have anything useful to contribute to this thread, then please don't reply to it. I think his thread with JW gives adequate explanation for his choice of location, so I don't see any point in following him around the forum commenting on it.
