[SOLVED] CORE FTP and PUTTY not connecting to LINUX SERVER

Hello,

I am trying to connect using coreftp and putty to my linux server which is out of my network area. But i am unable to connect. What may be the problem. and how to solve it.

SSH server may not be running on the server
Firewall (local / remote)
FTP server may not be running on the server
DNS
Route
Power Outage

Need more information for better guesses.

ok I ll check whether ftp n ssh servers are running.
server is a remote server.

The ftp server vsftp is running
secure shell server ssh is also running.
iptables have entries to accept 21 and 22.
Still I cannot connect to my server through coreftp and putty.

What might be the problem?

All you've told us is that you have a 'remote server'...you don't tell us what version/distro of Linux you're using. And Sydney posted some reasons..have you checked those? Are you trying to connect via IP address or DNS/FQDN? What kind of client are you using? Can you even ping the remote server? Checked the firewall(s) between you and it? Can you access any other servers on that same network?

Without details, no one can help you.

My server is a remote server running RHEL
I am using COREFTP lite and PUTTY clients on windows xp.
I am using static ip address to access the server.
I am running a webserver in the the same server and I am able to access that without trouble.
Ping successful.

And what VERSION of RHEL? And since you're using RHEL, have you called Red Hat support, since you're PAYING for RHEL, right???

Ok, so turn off iptables and see if you can access things then. It would also help if you posted the actual messages you're getting, rather than just saying "it doesn't work". Can you log on to that server directly and FTP/SSH to the address then?

And AGAIN, you were asked about firewalls, DNS issues, etc., but still haven't answered.
