The location of the zone files can also be in: /etc/named or /etc/bind.

Depends on the OS and if it's not setup the chroot env for bind. But, yes, it can be there too.

Well first of all, tell us what distro you are using and then check if it's really running "ps -ef|grep named"

This is your profession? And your company is already running it's own name servers? Why aren't you asking these questiosn of your peers / superiors? Have you not documented any of your own IT systems??

Acid:

When I insert this command and I got this

[pham@mail1 ~]$ vi /var/named
" ============================================================================
" Netrw Directory Listing (netrw v125)
" /var/named
" Sorted by name
" Sort sequence: [\/]$,\.h$,\.c$,\.cpp$,*,\.o$,\.obj$,\.info$,\.swp$,\.bak$,\~
" Quick Help: <F1>:help -:go up dir D:delete R:rename s:sort-by x:exec
" ============================================================================
../

~
~

~
~
"/var/named" is a directory 7,1 All

I don't see any where I can add or update MX records. Please advise

I think you need to get to grips with the basics of Linux first. You do not appear to be at all ready to perform these tasks. Again, you say this is your work place? Is there really no one else you can ask who knows anything about Linux?

Well if you need to do this stuff, you need to understand some basics about Linux first, how to use vi, how to navigate directories etc.

acid is right, but also you need to know where exactly the db file is, otherwise you will never do this right. Until now you showed only empty file or directories, which kind of says you don't know where they are (the configuration files) and maybe you should ask someone from you company to tell you. After that adding the MX entry is not really that hard.

Well, in post #1 you said you are using CentOS 5.3 .
By default (as that's a free rebuild of RHEL 5.3) I'd expect it to be chrooted.
See Chap 16 of http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_boo...ion/index.html.
You should bookmark that manual, you're going to need it.

By the way, RHEL/Centos is now on 5.8; you should probably update, if only for security's sake.
