Keyboard and touchpad stop working after LXDE loads (Debian 6 on Asus EEE HA1005)

Hello all,

I recently installed Debian 6 on my old ASUS EEE 1005HA. I chose LXDE because I'm only using the machine for SSHing into other machines and some light web browsing.

The problem I am having is that the keyboard and mouse stop working once X loads. The keyboard works fine when GRUB loads, I am able to scroll through options, but once I get to the login screen for LXDE the keyboard and mouse do not work.

If I plug an external USB keyboard and mouse in they work fine. I've tried a few things through google-fu but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't know which config files I should post, so let me know and I'll post them up forthwith.

Thanks in advance, wise, bearded Linux gurus.

I didn't do the install via a LiveCD. I'll give that a shot tomorrow and report back.

I just tried with Puppy Linux Live CD (it was the smallest download I could find). The keyboard and mouse still didn't work. I'm still able to use the keyboard outside of the desktop environment but once it loads no bueno. The external keyboard/mouse still worked.

Update for future Googlers:

I got it working, but not in the configuration that I originally posted about. I decided to switch to Lubuntu instead of LXDE on top of Debian and it all worked like a charm.
